Cali PTA invites you to join us in supporting our 15th annual Move-a-thon. The theme is "Outerspace: The sky is the limit!".
MOVE-A-THON IS A FUNDRAISER AND EVENT
The FREE event happens in September. Our event for 2023 will be on Saturday, October 7, 2023. Normally, over 1,500 Cali students and their family members participate in an afternoon of fitness activities: soccer, Zumba, basketball, volleyball, yoga, Taekwondo, and much more. It’s a great way to bring our Cali community together to have fun and to promote healthy lifestyle choices. All Cali students who attend receive a free uniform approved t-shirt at the event. The fundraising kicks off with a rally for the students. Students gather pledges from family and friends and can win prizes for their participation.
Important 2023 Dates:
October 6: Rallies for all grades
October 7, 2023, 2-5pm MOVE-A-THON EVENT
October 13: donations due for prize eligibility
October 23: Donations due for grade level competitions for popsicle parties! One grade level wins in each of these grade-level groups: TK-2, 3-5, and 6-8.
All students who participate in the Move-a-thon receive a free t-shirt! Students who cannot attend the Move-a-thon due to another athletic commitment can receive credit for the minutes spent on that sport and gather pledges if they provide a signed note from their coach. They can also receive a free Move-a-thon shirt by bringing the note to the office before school the week after the Move-a-thon.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
This is Cali PTA’s major fundraiser that supports our school with field trips, assemblies, programs, library books, science supplies, sports equipment, Club Academia, lunchtime recess activities, teacher grants, and other general campus support. After we fund all of those programs and school needs ($30,000), we would like to purchase something that will either help in the classroom or improve the campus. Stay tuned for the specifics.
In the past big purchases have included: Upgrades to Cali library, books for classroom libraries, improvements to the lunch area, repairs to the play structure in the kinder yard, new technology in the classrooms including laptops, document cameras and LCD projectors, upgrade to the PA system in the gym, electronic marquee in the front of the school, play structure on the main playground, and buddy benches.
THIS YEAR’S MOVE-A-THON GOAL: $50,000
Cali PTA will use the first $30,000 for existing programs and school support. Every dollar raised goes right back to CCLA. Your Cali PTA donations will be for library resources, recess equipment, enrichment and classroom supplies, activities, and more. Let's help all our students flourish.
YOUR GOAL: $125
PTA is asking each family to pledge at least $125. If you can donate more, please consider this as a great way to make a difference not just for your student, but for every student at Cali. Donations are tax deductible.
The 2021 Move-a-thon made $49,457.92. It didn’t come from just a few big checks but from many smaller donations as well. 100% return of the pledge envelopes with some sort of donation big or small will help reach our goal and make great things happen for our Cali students.
PREVIOUS GOALS
2022: All extra funds raised were for playground enhancements for the main playground and the TK area. Examples that might be considered: repainting the four square areas, hopscotch games, the ball wall and other beautification ideas.
2021: This year extra funds were earmarked to support outdoor education, such as an outdoor classroom in the middle school. Fundraiser total: $49457.92
2020: We all know this was not a typical year. The money earned helped fund our general programs, along with campus & classroom support. Fundraiser total: $30,196.28
2019: We currently have teachers with aging, minimal or no classroom libraries. We were able to give $25,000 towards classroom libraries. Fundraiser total: $56,000
2018: Funds will help us continue to support and expand the enrichment classes at Cali and also work to provide a positive environment for our students on campus. Some ideas include a buddy bench, motivational murals, and / or additional playground supervision during recess.
2017: PTA chose goals that supported the theme of Healthy Bodies and Healthy Minds. For healthy bodies: We were able to put in a new slide in the Kinder yard that had been boarded up and repaired the other slide. We saw a need for more bike racks. We were able to get some from Windsor Middle School! For healthy minds: Music and the performing arts are full brain exercises and we wanted to dedicate a portion of the Move-a-thon funds specifically for music and performing arts. We were able to purchase some expensive string instruments (ukuleles, cellos, basses) for the class our students are taking early in the morning at Windsor Middle School and had others repaired. The funds also went to the other programs and annual support we provide to the school, staff, and campus. Come to room 43 for more information.
