  • The amount of books you read to your child increases their verbal skills and increases the likelihood that they will be a good reader. If you aren't already reading with your child, consider beginning to do so now. Television can expose children to concepts they can not yet process. Consider books on tape or on the computer to increase focus and vocabulary. The recommended hours of sleep for an average 5 year old is 10 to 12 hours.
